5} Surveillance or Law Enforcement

Surveillance

Surveillance is the monitoring of behavior or information for the purpose of gathering needed information. There are many types of surveillance including physical contact, electronic devices, financial institutions, and social media platforms. It is very common for many citizens to provide their homes and vehicles with surveillance devices. These devices include security cameras, dashboard cameras, and drones.

Even though surveillance is necessary, it can also be detrimental to our civil liberties. It can increase the risk of wrongful convictions and possibly affect the people who are innocent. Surveillance systems rely on technology which can fail, be hacked or even have poor technical issues. Surveillance can raise privacy concerns among employees and customers alike, potentially creating an atmosphere of distrust if not handled with transparency and respect for privacy laws. Another major concern with surveillance is the costs. Some families cannot afford to have their houses equipped with surveillance protection and therefore may not have the same privileges as others do. Some examples of illegal surveillance would be having cameras located in bathrooms, dressing rooms, bedrooms, etc without having consent.

Companies that have employees that are represented by a union or other trade organization should verify that the installation of cameras or other surveillance devices doesn’t violate the terms of any collective bargaining agreement. Public safety increases whenever there is public surveillance available. This is because there will always be a way of proving a certain issue right or wrong with evidential proof. There are many incredible elements when having security cameras around to capture any suspicious activity. Mass surveillance could therefore lead from self-censoring of individuals.

One of the main challenges is data loss, which can occur if the cameras are not properly configured, if the recordings are not securely stored, or there is an issue with data connection. Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that while security cameras can help to protect against physical threats, they are not always effective against cyber threats. Most academic studies found them to reduce and deter crime overall, having surveillance cameras resulting in 50% reduction in crime or more.

Drones are one of the largest used surveillance strategies there are in the world. Drones don't just catch criminal activity, everyday activity, or accidents, but that get footage of the graphic design of the world. Surveillance is not just about what we can catch on the camera but what can create from what the camera has captured. Drones are very helpful in predicting what can be possible in the making of the future world. Drones are used for photography, military sequences, governance issues, and homes.

Dashboard cameras are a great investment as well. They allow you to catch accidental footage from your car. This could be for a car accident and the other driver doesn't tell the truth about them hitting you. Or this could be footage of a natural disaster occurring such as a tornado or an earthquake.
